In connection with the International Days of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, we will spend the 2 weeks surrounding November 1 & 8 praying for the 10 nations where Christians face the worst persecution. Check back each weekday from October 26 through November 6 for a post focusing our prayer on a particular nation, and consider making prayer for the persecuted church a regular part of your personal worship. “Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body.” (Hebrews 13:3)

#1 – North Korea

1600px-Flag_of_North_Korea.svgGovernment: Communist dictatorship
Leader: Kim Jong-Un
Population: 25 million
Christians: 300,000 (1.2%)
Persecution Level: Extreme
Persecution Source: Dictatorial paranoia
Other Information: North Korea has been ranked the #1 worst persecutor of Christians for 13 straight years. The government prohibits all private, non-sanctioned religious practice, and Christians are routinely imprisoned, tortured, and executed. Just possessing a Bible or saying the name, “Jesus,” are capital offenses. It is estimated that as many as 70,000 Christians are currently imprisoned in labor and concentration camps.

Prayer Points:

  • For the 50,000-70,000 Christians imprisoned in labor camps; ask God to sustain them
  • For the many Christians who don’t have enough food to survive and are forced to flee to China
  • That Christians may stay strong in their faith under unrelenting pressure from government spies
