… so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. (1 Timothy 2:2)

Over the past few days, we have prayed for those in authority at the local, state, and federal levels. The reason Paul commanded Timothy to pray for those in authority was so that Christians “may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity” (1 Tim. 2:2). In other words, Paul told Timothy to pray for religious liberty.

Pray for America’s long tradition of religious liberty to continue. Pray that we would be able to continue practicing our faith—not just in worship on Sunday, but in our everyday lives—as Scripture and our consciences dictate, without fear that the government will try and decide which religious beliefs are valid and force us to violate our conscience. Pray also that we would not use our freedom “as a covering for evil, but as bondslaves of God” (1 Pet. 2:16; cf. Gal. 5:13).

Finally, although it is not directly related to this topic, pray today as the United States Senate begins deliberations over a bill to defund Planned Parenthood. Although it appears unlikely to pass, pray that it would and for, at the very least, the discussion on abortion to begin to shift as people recognize the sanctity of human life, even in the womb.
