Remember the prisoners, as though in prison with them, and those who are ill-treated, since you yourselves also are in the body. (Hebrews 13:3)

Yesterday we prayed for the saints in general. Today we pray for those saints who are persecuted, who find themselves in chains or ill-treated because of their faith. The author of Hebrews reminds his readers that they could easily find themselves in the same position (“as though in prison with them”) and of their common bond as believers in Jesus Christ (“you yourselves also are in the body”).

Pray today for Christians around the world suffering for their faith. Pray for Christians in the Middle East and North Africa, who are under the shadow of the Islamic State (IS or ISIS). Pray for Pastor Saeed Abedini, a U.S. citizen, who is imprisoned in Iran for his faith. Pray for Asia Bibi, a believer in Pakistan, whose appeal of a death penalty conviction for blasphemy will be heard on Wednesday. Visit the Voice of the Martyrs’ prayer page, where they have prayer requests listed (as well as links to their weekly email updates and prayer app), and pray for the urgent requests. Pray for Christian businessmen and women in America whose convictions on issues like marriage have put their livelihoods at stake. Pray that all these brothers and sisters would not falter in their faith or convictions, that God would provide for their every need, and that he would deliver them from or through these trials. Pray also that their example would give us courage if and when we face similar circumstances.
